Backbone Mountain

One of the Allegheny Mountains, Backbone Mountain, in Tucker County, extends northeastward from Parsons, WV, into western Maryland. It exceeds 3,000 feet in elevation along most of its length. A roadside park, "Centennial Park," along U.S. Route 219, affords beautiful views westward from the summit. The mountain has also been mapped as "North Ridge" and "The Devil's Backbone."
