Beverly Historic District
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
In Beverly, West Virginia, in Randolph County, the Beverly National Historic District preserves the cluster of historic buildings in this small agricultural village, which figured locally in the Civil War. The Bushrod Crawford Store, which served as General McClellan headquarters during the battle of Rich Mountain, is now home of the Rich Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center (http://www.richmountain.org/). Union regiments under McClellan in 1861 defeated Conferate troops occupying the pass on the mountain east of the town.
