Big Spruce Knob
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
Big Spruce Knob rises to 4,673 feet above sea level, 7 miles NW of Marlinton, WV in the Monongahela National Forest in Pocahontas County. Though not so lofty as Spruce Knob, the highest point in the state, Big Spruce Knob is perhaps more arresting; geologically termed a "monadnock," the mountain rises high above the surrounding ridges and peaks. An overlook on the nearby Highland Scenic Highway (Route 150) provides a spectacular view of the peak, which is crowned with red spruce.
