Blair Mountain, in Logan County, rises to 1,961 feet near Logan, WV. Though not among the Mountain State's highest peaks, the mountain figured prominently in the Mine Wars of the southern West Virginia Coal Fields. The Battle of Blair Mountain, fought in 1921, was the largest organized armed uprising in American labor history. As many as 15,000 miners confronted state and federal troops in an effort to unionize the coal mines of the region.
