Bluefield State College (BSC) (map (http://www.wvamaps.com/maps/index.php?place=Bluefield%20State%20College&state=WV&lon=-81.2408&lat=37.2647&pop=0&county=Mercer&elev=0&scale=3)), in Bluefield, WV, Mercer County, was established as a black teachers' college in 1895 and was integrated after 1954. Today BSC offers undergraduate liberal-arts and professional programs in applied sciences, business, education, humanities, social sciences, engineering technologies, and allied health sciences. Programs include business, teacher education, arts and sciences, engineering technologies, and nursing and health science. BSC has the lowest tuition rates of any four-year institution in the western borderland of Virginia and West Virginia. Its faculty-student ratio is 18 to 1.
