Bridge Area

The Bridge Area is one of the most popular climbing areas in the New River Gorge and is located immediately adjacent to the New River Gorge Bridge.Easy access, convenient parking, and moderate climbing-routes attract many first-time climbers. Most cliffs in the bridge area range in height from 30-to-90 feet. The first ascents were made in the 1970s, and the area was long the primary climbing area in the gorge.
The Junkyard Wall climbing area extend along the rim of the gorge to the north of the bridge climbing-area along the Nuttall Sandstone. The remote Ambassador Buttress is located along the rim to the south. Cliffs in the Bridge Area, from northwest to southeast, include:
