Summers County is a primarily rural county, and, with the exception of the City of Hinton, the larger part of its communities are rural and associated with agriculture or railroading along the mainline of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O), which follows portions of the New River and Greenbrier River through the eastern, central, and northern county. The following information also includes named places not large enough to qualify as a town or city.
