Chapline Street Row Historic District
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
In Wheeling, WV, in Ohio County, the Chapline Street Row preserves a neighborhood of large homes built by wealthy Wheeling merchants. Late Victorian homes dominate as the architectural style. During their construction, in the late 1800s, Wheeling was among the largest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains and was a gateway to the West, situated where the National Road met the Ohio River.
