Cherry Pond Mountain
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
Cherry Pond Mountain forms the common border between Boone County and Raleigh County in the coalfields of southern West Virginia and is a northern extension of Guyandotte Mountain. Extremely rugged and steep-sided, the mountain is part of the Cumberland Mountains region of southwestern West Virginia and eastern Kentucky. Much of the mountain has recently been destroyed by mountaintop-removal surface mining of coal, and large parts of the mountain are slated for removal in future. The summits of other nearby mountains are also slated for removal, such as at nearby Coal River Mountain.
