Coalton, WV is a community in Randolph County. Name of town, Womelsdorff. Name of post office, Coalton. Incorporated in 1895 under the name of Womelsdorff, after O. C. Womelsdorff, Pennsylvanian, the first coal operator in that community. Coalton, the post office, derived its name because of the location in a coal mining center.
