Cotton Hill
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
Cotton Hill, in Fayette County, west of Fayetteville, West Virginia, rises to more than 2,000 feet along the southern flank of the New River Gorge. Though not a prominent feature on the landscape, the hill figured locally during the Civil War. Local legend maintains a brass cannon was hidden in a cleft on the hill by Confederate troops withdrawing from an outpost overlooking the river at Gauley Bridge, WV.
