The county seat of Wirt County, Elizabeth, WV was originally chartered in 1822, and named for Elizabeth (Woodyard) Beauchamp, wife of David Beauchamp, prominent early settler. The first steamboats to reach the town of Elizabeth via the Little Kanawha River were the Sciota Belle, in 1842, followed by the Lodi in 1847.
