Extra, West Virginia
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
Extra, in northern Putnam County, is a hamlet located along Eighteen Mile Creek, a tributary of the Kanawha River. Grandview Ridge Road (CR-21), traveling from the south, intersects Eighteen Mile Creek Road (CR-14) at Extra (map) (http://www.wvamaps.com/maps/index.php?place=Extra&state=WV&pop=0&county=Putnam&lat=38.6172&lon=-81.8517&elev=730). The community was likely established as a timber-milling center in the late 1800s; today it is little more than a crossroads among low hills and cornfields.
