First Frontier Fort

The first frontier font built in present-day West Virginia was built in 1750 at Ridgeley, in Mineral County, and called Fort Ohio. During the French and Indian War, which began in 1754, about 22 forts were established in the West Virginia, in a defense array known as the Chain of Forts.
