Ford Knob, or Ford's Knob (elev. 3,360 ft.), is one of four important summits along the 10-mile backbone of Sewell Mountain in eastern Fayette County. North of the knob, Sewell extends in a northeasterly direction, while to the south the mountain turns westward, extending as Walnut Ridge, toward Walnut Knob (elev. 3,442 ft.). Ford Knob is sometimes designated as the southernmost summit on Sewell Mountain, and the more distant Walnut Knob is classified as the higher end of a lesser ridge, rather than the southernmost summit.

Myles Knob (elev. 3,460 ft.) and Buster Knob (elev. 3,278 ft.), two other Sewell summits to the northweast, figured strategically in the Civil War.
