Gary, WV is a community located in McDowell County, named after Judge E. H. Gary, Chairman of United States Steel Corporation. In 1902 the United States Steel Corporation completed one of the largest coal plants in the world at Gary, and soon afterwards constructed two branch line railroads connecting with the Norfolk & Western Railway (http://www.wvrailroads.net/index.php/Norfolk_%26_Western_Railway) (N&W) in the Flat Top - Pocahontas Coal Field.
