Gassaway, West Virginia

A community in Braxton County, incorporated in 1905, and named for Henry Gassaway Davis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Gassaway_Davis), pioneer coal operator of Randolph County, and United States Senator from West Virginia, 1871-1883. Davis established Gassaway in 1904 as a division point on his railroad that extended between Elkins and Charleston, WV, the Coal & Coke Railway (http://www.wvrailroads.net/index.php/Coal_%26_Coke_Railway) (C&C).
Gassaway is located on the Elk River at the mouth of Little Otter Creek, three miles west of Interstate 79 (I-79).
