Pasture near Glen Daniel
Glen Daniel, in western Raleigh County, located 11 air-miles west of Beckley, WV, and is an unincorporated rural community. At the junction of WV-3 and WV-99, Glen Daniel has long been an important agricultural and transportation center.

The community was formerly known as "The Marshes" and is situated in the glades and marshy flatlands in the upper drainage of the Marsh Fork of Coal River north of Coal River Mountain. Marsh Fork was a viable choice for the seat of Raleigh County when the county was created in 1850, though the seat passed to Beckley. Prehistoric villages were located in the glades around Glen Daniel, as is evidenced by several Native American mounds there.
