The county seat of Ritchie County, Harrisville, WV, was established in 1832, but not chartered until 1869. Name changed to Harrisville in 1830, in honor of Thomas Harris, pioneer. Harrisville is located in a popular tourist destination area. North Bend State Park and the North Bend Rail Trail are located to the west and north of the community. Berdine's Five & Dime Store, the oldest such store extant in West Virginia, is located on the courthouse square.
