Highland Mountain
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
In southern Fayette County, Highland Mountain runs generally east-west from southern crest of Mann Mountain to the edge of the New River Gorge. The mountain is a broad tableland, primarily wooded, and is almost wholly located with the boundaries of the New River Gorge National River. A ridge of the mountain north of Dowdy Creek ends along the gorge in a precipitous designated on U.S. Geological Survey maps as Dowdy Bluff. The Stretcher Neck of the New River is created by a southern ridge of the mountain.
