During the year ending June 30, 1914, the Gulf Coal Company operated the Hotcoal Nos. 1, 2, & 3 mines, located on the Winding Gulf Branch of the Virginian Railway. No.1 mine operated in Beckley seam of 4-foot thickness, employing 25 workers who produced 200 tons of coal per day. Nos. 2 & 3 mines operated in the Beckley seam of 5-foot thickness, employing 25 persons. Walter P. Tams, Gen. Mgr.
