The southern territory of Bluestone Lake and the Bluestone Lake WMA extends southward through southern Summers County from the southern reaches of Crump's Bottom, in the north, to the Virginia State Line near Peterstown, WV, in the south. The Shanklin's Ferry Public Campground and Sherman Ballard Recreation Area are located on the eastern margin of the lake northeast of Peterstown. The former site of Mercer Saltworks is located on the western side of the river near the mouth of Lick Creek and the foot of Saltwell Ridge.
