Indian Creek (Monroe County)
Indian Creek is the name of several streams in West Virginia. The Indian Creek that sources in Monroe County near Union, WV, in southern West Virginia is a tributary of the New River. An important Native American trail followed the stream on part of its east-west course between the valley of the Kanawha River and the Great Valley of Virginia. Part of the antebellum Giles, Fayette and Kanawha Turnpike also followed the lower course of the river near its mouth. Several public campgrounds are located along the lower course of the stream within the territory of the Bluestone Lake WMA. U.S. Route 219 (US-219) follows part of Indian Creek on its route between Union and Peterstown, WV. The Indian Creek Covered Bridge crosses Indian Creek near Salt Sulphur Springs, WV. Downstream of Red Sulphur Springs, WV, Indian Creek enters southern Summers County.
