The Indian Creek Covered Bridge, near Salt Sulphur Springs, WV, in Monroe County, spans Indian Creek and is a 50 foot long "long truss" bridge. It is one of two remaining covered bridges in Monroe County and is among the most photographed in West Virginia. The Weikel brothers were only 16 and 18 when they built the bridge just before the turn of the 20th century. The Indian Creek Covered Bridge is located off U.S. Route 219 (US-219), about six miles south of Union, WV. In about 1929-30, when the highway was completed through southern Monroe County, the covered bridge was no longer needed and fell out of common public use. Restoration work began on the bridge in 1965 when it was leased by the Monroe County Historical Society. A brother of the original builders was then contracted to replace weakened materials and to strengthen the structure. The bridge was restored by Hoke Brothers Construction Inc. in 2000 at a cost of $334,446. The bridge is 49.25 feet long and 11.5 feet wide.
