Kanawha State Forest is a 9,300 acre recreation area located near the community of Loudendale, WV, in Kanawha County, about seven miles south of Charleston, WV. The forest is managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, and though classified as a "state forest," the W.Va. Legislature has directed that it be managed as a state park. Recreational amenities provided through Kanawha State Forest include playgrounds, picnic areas, and hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing trails. A camping area and public swimming pool are among its best known warm weather attractions. The forest also includes a public shooting range, and many acres are open to hunting in season.
