Kayford Mountain, in northwestern Raleigh County, rises to 2,892 feet between the waters of the Coal River and Kanawha River. It forms the common border between Raleigh County and Fayette County and Kanawha County. Much of the mountain's summit has been leveled by mountaintop removal mining. Kayford is part of the Cumberland Mountains province of Appalachia, as are nearby Coal River Mountain, Cherry Pond Mountain, and Paint Creek Mountain.
