The early coal mines in the Killarney area transported coal to market via the Stone Coal Sub-Division, a branch line railroad jointly operated by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway and the Virginian Railway.

1920: Mead-Toliver Coal Co., Killarny mine, 159,398 tons produced

1925: Kilarney Smokeless Co.; Killarny mine, production 320,293 tons
