A community in McDowell County, Kimball, WV was incorporated in 1911. Named for Frederick J. Kimball, President of the Norfolk and Western Railway (http://www.wvrailroads.net/index.php/Norfolk_%26_Western_Railway), who's railroad built its line through the mountains of southwestern Virginia into the previously untapped Flat Top - Pocahontas Coal Field during the 1880's. Kimball is the location of the first war memorial building erected in the United States to the memory of Afro-American veterans of the World War.
