A community in Mason County, located on a bend in the Ohio River, Mason was originally chartered by the General Assembly of Virginia in 1856. Named for the county, which in turn was named for George W. Mason, author of the Constitution of Virginia. Formerly known as Waggener's Bottom. The community is located along U.S. 33 opposite Pomeroy, Ohio.
