Masontown, West Virginia

A community in Preston County, Masontown, WV, was incorporated in 1902. Named for William Mason, the founder and the town's first postmaster. The town was a coal-mining and industrial center until the late 1900s. Cornwell Cave, a largely unexplored limestone cavern, is located just west of the town and was once a popular tourist destination. Masontown is located along Deckers Creek on W.Va. Route 7 (WV-7), approximately 10 miles west of Morgantown, WV.
