Mathew Arbuckle

Early pioneer settler of Greenbrier County, who lived at present-day Lewisburg. A captain in the militia, in the spring of 1774, Arbuckle ordered the building of a frontier fort, Arbuckle's Fort, on the property owned by John Keeney. In September of 1774, Captain Arbuckle and his militia guided Colonel Andrew Lewis and his troops from Lewisburg to Point Pleasant and took part in the battle which followed.
