McCullough Mound
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
Location: On south side of the Kanawha River, approximately five miles above the river's mouth in Cabell County
McCullough Mound is one of the so-called "Indian mounds" excavated during the explorations of West Virginia by the Bureau of American Ethnology of the Smithsonian Institution in the 1880s. The mound was approximately 20 feet high and 300 feet in circumference at the time of excavation, but is apparently much smaller today. The remains of at least six adults and several children, but no personal items, were found in the mound.
