Morris Battle Ground
In Fayette County, near the present-day community of Lookout, WV, during the early years of settlement by white Europeans (possibly about 1774-1780), a brief battle was fought between Indian forces and settlers under the command of Col. Morris, just west of Frank Lyons house and the old trail near Mr. Lyons' spring.(1) Several white settlers were killed after being ambushed by the Native Americans, who later retreated. The dead were buried in unmarked graves nearby. The History of Fayette County names Frank Lyons' place as being "among the first places settled" in regards to the history of present-day Lookout, WV.
