Moundsville, West Virginia
Moundsville, WV, the county seat of Marshall County, was originally chartered in 1832. The town so named because the Grave Creek Mound and three other smaller Adena mounds were located in the city. The West Virginia State Penitentiary was established in Moundsville, WV in 1866.
