In western
Summers County, Mountain Valley Lake is a flood prevention and water supply impoundment on the
Jumping Branch of the
Little Bluestone River at
Jumping Branch, WV. The lake was created in 1971 by the construction of an earthen dam 32 feet high and was built under the Mountain Dominion Resource Conservation and Development Project by the Jumping Branch-Nimitz Public Service District. The 39 acre lake was drains an area of 1,820 acres southeast of
White Oak Mountain. The W.Va. Division of Natural Resources manages the lake as a day-use public fishing area.
