Mud River Covered Bridge

The Mud River Covered Bridge, at Milton, WV, in Cabell County, spanned the Mud River and is the sole example of a Howe Truss in West Virginia. The bridge as erected in 1875 by order of the Cabell County Court, and the contract for construction was awarded to R.H. Baker, the local postmaster, who completed the project in 1879. The bridge was moved to its current location and renovated in 2002. An earlier covered bridge nearby was the scene of a military operation during the Civil War.
