Oak Mounds

Near Clarksburg, WV, in Harrison County, on the crown of the hill to the east is a large Indian mound and to the west of it is a smaller mound. These mounds have never been excavated but they were probably built by the Hopewellian culture between A. D. 1 and 1000. The larger mound is about 12 feet high and 60 feet in diameter. A number of burials of important persons of the culture probably occurred in these mounds.
