Peters Mountain
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
Peters Mountain, near Union, West Virginia, forms much of West Virginia's southeastern border with Virginia. With peaks exceeding 4,000 feet, the mountain forms a high wall across the southern edge of Monroe County. Peters is part of the Appalachian Valley & Ridge Region. Further southwest, the mountain meets the New River at "The Narrows," then extends beyond as East River Mountain. The Allegheny Trail and part of the Appalachian Trail follow the crest of Peters Mountain. An overlook at Hanging Rock on one of the mountain's highest peaks is also a famous bird-migration observatory.
