Philippi Historic District

In Philippi, WV, in Barbour County, the Philippi National Historic District helps preserve the site of the first land battle of the Civil War, fought for control of a covered bridge spanning the Tygart River, built in 1852. The covered bridge, the B&O Railroad Station, and the village's Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne style buildings are included in the district.
