Pineville, West Virginia

From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia

The county seat of Wyoming County, Pineville,WV was platted in 1893, incorporated in 1907, and chartered in 1917. Pineville is so named because of the location of the original site, when selected, of a black- or pitch-pine second-growth forest. By the late-1920's, Pineville had one bank, a weekly newspaper, three chruches, a courthouse, and a school building, and the city maintained a small park and bathing beach. A statue of Rev. W. H. H. Cook, soldier, statesman, and minister, stands in front of the courthouse building.
