The Pipestem community from Pipestem Knob

Pipestem (map) is an unincorporated community along WV-20 in western Summers County northeast of Athens, WV, and southwest of Hinton, WV. Pipestem is the center of a large agricultural area and is the location of Pipestem Resort State Park, which is among the most popular vacation parks in West Virginia. The community is located amid an area of level land near the head of Pipestem Creek. It takes its name from the plant called pipestem that grew in the area. Thanks to its proximity to vacation areas and the cities of Hinton, WV, and Princeton, WV, the community is a popular location for real estate investment.

Pipestem is also the location of Pipestem Falls. Pipestem Knob and its observation tower rise to the south of the village.
