Pipestem Creek

From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia

Head: sources on Pipestem Knob: Summers County
Mouth: empties into Bluestone River: Summers County

Pipestem Creek rises in Pipestem Resort State Park and crosses a marshy glade before descending over a falls into a narrow valley, which it follows to its mouth on Bluestone River within Bluestone State Park. The creek takes its name from a reedy plant known locally as "pipestem," which may have grown in the glades near its headspring. Pipestem Falls drops 30 feet over a sandstone cliff where the creek leaves the glades. A falls observation area is located off W.Va. 12 (WV-12) north of the park entrance.
