The Pocahontas No. 4 Coal seam in the region of New River Gorge is thin and commercially unimportant here. The No. 4 outcrops 91 feet below the Pocahontas No. 6 Coal and 96 feet above the Pocahontas No. 3 at its type locality in Pocahontas, VA.
