Pocahontas No. 6 Coal

The Pocahontas No. 6 Coal was mined extensively in the southern New River Gorge region where it reached a thickness of 18 inches to 6 feet. In the Quinnimont and Sewell Mountain districts of Fayette County, the seam is usually multiple-bedded, soft, and columnar. It was mined extensively in this region by the New River & Pocahontas Consolidated Coal Co.
