This Class III rapids on the upper New River Gorge cross the New River in a tightened right-hand bend just below the Quinnimont rail yard and above the town of Prince, both of which are on river-right. The rapids are most likely formed from alluvial deposits washed down from Laurel Creek, on river-right, and from colluvial deposition from the mountainside on river-left.

Good views of the rapids are afforded from the NPS Grandview Sandbar campground and river-access area, located in the sandy bottom beside the rapids at river-left. Public restroom facilities are located in the camping area. Motor vehicles may reach the sandbar by Glade Creek Road, which follows river-left between WV-41 and the river-access area.
