Quinnimont Sandstone

Named for its outcrop along the New River at Quinnimont, this sandstone, found directly below the Beckley Coal, is, however, not a prominent cliff-forming rock in the New River Gorge. The sandstone caps the Quinnimont Shale, and together the sandstone and shale separate the productive beds of the Beckley and Fire Creek coal seams.
