River View, West Virginia
From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia
On May 29, 1878, a post office was established at River View, a point about 1/2 mile upstream from the area that would later become Thurmond. At about the same time, the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O) established a station at that point named Riverview.
Riverview was also the point of a ferry crossing across New River where a commercial ferry service operated prior to the completion of the railroad bridge across New River at Thurmond in 1889.
Note: There was also a mine called "Riverview" located in "lower" Fayette County, near Boomer.
