Riverton, West Virginia
Riverton, in Pendleton County, is an unincorporated community, or village, population 544 in 2000, popularly known as a destination for rock climbers visiting nearby Seneca Rock and other local climbing areas. Spruce Knob, the highest point in West Virginia, and Seneca Caverns are also located nearby.
Riverton take its name from its riverside location on the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River. The Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, part of the Monongahela National Forest, protects the region surrounding Riverton. U.S. Highway 33 (US-33) and West Virginia Route 28 (WV-28) join in the town.
