A community in Marion County, Rivesville, WV, was established in 1837, but not incorporated until 1875. Named in honor of William Cabell Rives, a Virginian of great prominence at that time, later United States Senator from West Virginia. The town is located on the Monongahela River, three miles downstream of Fairmont, WV, at the mouth of Pawpaw Creek.
