Sandstone Falls from overlook
From a roadside pull-off along W.Va. Route 20 (WV-20) in
Summers County, approximately six miles north of
Hinton, WV, motorists are afforded a vista of
Sandstone Falls from high above on the western flank of
Chestnut Mountain. The overlook area was developed by the National Park Service to provide a convenient means for travelers to observe the falls, which are not directly accessible from the overlook. Access to the falls by motor vehicle must approached by River Road on the opposite side of the New, a drive of some nine miles south to Hinton and another nine north again. An information kiosk and an observation area are located at the overlook. The smaller
Brooks Overlook is located a 1.5 miles south of the Sandstone Falls overlook and provides an excellent view of the valley of the
New River looking southward.
